World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations
The Canadian Tour
Guide Association of Toronto is proud to be a member of the World Federation
of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA).
Through WFTGA we are
associated with other member organizations from Switzerland to Singapore. No
matter where we are from, it is surprising how much we have in common to
discuss with other guides. There are numerous issues on which we can work
together.
Aims
The aims of the World Federation of Tourist Guide
Associations are:

to establish contact with tourist guide associations
throughout the world and to reinforce their professional ties,

to represent professional tourist guides
internationally and to promote and protect their interests,
|
 |
to enhance the image of the profession,
|
 |
to promote a universal code of ethics and skills,
|
 |
to raise, encourage and establish the highest
standards of professionalism,
|
 |
to develop international training, and improving the
quality of guiding through education,
|
 |
to facilitate the exchange of information among
members.

WFTGA Conventions
The WFTGA holds a
biennial convention at which members can join in meaningful discussion to
resolve common issues. The conventions give tour guides from many different
countries opportunities to learn as well as to get acquainted with their

International Tourist Guide Day
The WFTGA's member associations make a special effort
to raise the profile of their profession around the world on International
Tourist Guide Day, February 21st each year. CTGA of Toronto has been a
participant since it joined WFTGA. To read more about the day and our
